Facts
“Foresight was firstly used in Japan in 1970 and was later disseminated around the world - at the turn of 20th and 21st centuries in the USA, Netherlands, Germany, the UK, New Zealand, Sweden, and also in Hungary and Czech Republic.”
“Foresight is the process of creating a culture of society’s thinking about the future, in which scientists, engineers, representatives of industry and public administration employees take part in setting the strategic directions of research and technology development in order to bring the greatest economic and social benefits. The participants of the forsight designing set the priority directions of the research, creating the common vision of future achievements. Foresight can be understood also as systematized thinking of the appearing opportunities and challenges, trends and turnabouts and other phenomena. This kind of thinking uses all the available information sources, involves main agents of changes and applies formalized techniques; synthetic and systematic opinions (instead of incoherent discussions, which are often valuable and creative in the initial phase, but need clear conclusions for implementation). However, the aim of such thinking is not only to conduct more in-depth studies on the future’s development or developing more convincing scenarios and credible econometric models. Its aim is to develop the strategic vision and anticipating intelligence. This vision serves to make current, future-oriented decisions and to mobilize the environment to take further actions in cooperation.”
